My name is Bill Mooney and I’ll share my story briefly so you can see I’m probably a lot like you. My wife Laura and I purchased Miss Ruby (our 23 foot FBT International) a couple of years ago. We wanted to enjoy our travels, not tolerate them. Yes, we spent a lot of money buying one of the best rigs on the market. Tolerating my sleep was not an option. Our shake-down trip went well without a glitch…. Except for one major issue ….

You see, my sleep was far less than desirable.

I quickly noticed two problems with my sleep on this trip.

Problem #1: The stock twin bed mattress

It felt like I was like sleeping on a stack of folded up blankets. Every morning the mattress and bedding had slipped off the bed onto the floor. It didn’t take long to realize I was dealing with: an inexpensive poly-foam product, not designed for support and certainly not built specifically for me.  The mattress was brand new, but I quickly realized I needed to tolerate it, or I would be grumpy the entire trip.

Think about that – paying premium dollars for a great trailer, only to tolerate the mattress. Crazy, right?

Problem #2: If you own a modern Airstream® twin bed setup, you are probably a victim of this issue. We suffered from the dreaded twin bed sag and slide problem. Might wife didn’t have the problem as much as I did. Lucky for me, she is lean and has a slight build.  We fixed the twin bed slide and sag issue by making our Two Pillow Honey Trestles (platforms to support the mattress.)  

But here’s the kicker…

Even after fixing the slide and sag issue, my back was still tired and sore. That’s when it hit me like a hammer. This isn’t a slide and sag issue, it’s a mattress problem.

Let’s face it, most retail mattresses, and especially RV mattresses, are built and sold on high margins, price points, and profit (just look at the endless…30% off This Weekend Only! sales, the F.REE shipping, and 100 night sleep “guarantees.”) We all know only a small percentage of people actually return the mattress. If I owned one of those companies and marketed that way, I would just raise the prices to cover the return rate. Something tells me mattress companies do just that.

My business philosophy is simple: I want happy customers, not transactions.
