Airstream Twin Bed Trestle

Dear Fellow Airstreamer,

We chose the Twin Bed Version of our 23 foot International to have the trailer feel and function as large as possible. Besides, we wanted to use the twin bed area to also double as a lounge area…. until we experienced what we call… “The Twin Bed Slide” and the dreaded “Twin Bed Sag!”

So, to fix this problem for our 2024 twin beds model and all 2009 to present models, just before a week long trip, we collaborated with our amazing cabinet makers Ron and Dan to fix this “Twin Bed Slide” and “Twin Bed Sag” once and for all and built the first twin bed “Trestles” to support our twin mattresses.

These “Trestles” were a game changer for the dreaded “Twin Bed Slide” and “Twin Bed Sag” problem in our International FBT. So now we are offering these game-changers to you, our fellow Airstream Owners. (Look us up… BRN 12884.)

Here are the 5 benefits (Plus One Bonus) we discovered immediately upon installation…

  1. Incredible Foundation
    • We had the constant feeling of an unsupported mattress while sleeping. Before our installation, our bedding was on the floor and the mattress was hanging over the edge in the morning. Our Trestles now extend the platform to fully support the mattress!
  2. It’s a Math Problem
    • Our original mattress of about 34″ was sitting on a flat 30″ “base.” Rocket scientists don’t need to look at those numbers and see there is a problem with that math formula. The mattress hung over the edge by 4 inches. This math problem creates the “Twin Bed Sag.” Two Pillow Honey Trestles fixed the problem!
  3. Eliminate Movement
    • With our sturdy 3/4″ Baltic Birch bed rail, the mattress and bedding are held in place while sleeping and during travel. No more bedding on the floor! No more mattress on the floor after traveling.
  4. Mold & Mildew
    • Our “trestle” is CNC cut with high-quality Baltic Birch ply to resist any mold and mildew. The CNC cut slatted design now promotes about 50% better airflow under the mattress than the existing flat platform. These Trestles are fastened to your platforms using high quality screws. This improvement significantly reduces your chances of mold or mildew.
  5. Ultra High-Quality
    • Our CNC cut Baltic Birch “Trestles” are hand-crafted by professional cabinet makers. With only two pieces per Trestle, you can be assured they are rock-solid and manufactured with the best materials available. These Trestles feel more like furniture than a bed support. We finish the Baltic Birch off with high-quality clear coat for an amazing finish. Baltic Birch ply is popular in cabinet making, is very strong and manages moisture very well. This great wood also handles screws exceptionally well.
    • We do offer a matching Airstream laminate at an additional cost (about $300 per set… call for quote), but frankly, this laminate will not be seen. Please look at the pictures below from our Airstream as well as our friends at 13 Adventures, Brad and Blair. Brad took these pictures to show off the quality finish, but he says his bedding covers the rails the vast majority of the time.
  6. Ok…Here’s the Bonus Sixth Benefit
    • Stability for all sorts of “activity.”

Here’s a public service announcement… the set (two Trestles…. one for each twin) increases the weight of your trailer about 58 pounds. Be sure to check your tow capacities before purchasing. Fifty-eight (58) pounds isn’t a lot considering each gallon of water weighs about 8.33 pounds. To put it into perspective, these Trestles (set of two) weigh a little less than 7 gallons. The fresh water tank on my 23 foot International holds 37 gallons.

Here is a short video of the bottom of the Trestle being clear coat sprayed. Thanks for the video Ron!
